A lot of people are having problems with it. However, my problem was with any version of X and ATI's drivers. I am currently using the open source radeon drivers, but have heard of other people getting the ATI drivers to work fine by using the vanilla kernel sources. That makes some sense, but I haven't tried it. If I had unlimited time, I'd try to isolate which of the gentoo patches gives ATI's drivers problems.

I have the SAME issue you are having with Xorg and the lockup upon exiting. My system also locks up when i run dual monitors with separate screens, not Xinerama or clone. It usually locks up quickly after start Firefox, but it always does it upon exiting X when i run dual monitors. If you have any suggestions or have found out any information please share it. At this time i am getting frustrated with it and I'm contemplating going back to versions 6.x.
